Before selling your smartphone and preventing the leakage of your personal data, it is important to properly prepare the device. Ilya Kazakov, technical director of the service “Paverbanks, MTS Yurent”, notes that our smartphone stores a lot of important information, from financial data to personal photos. Therefore, you need to be careful and consistent before selling.
To avoid losing your important information, you should first backup all your data. Kazakov recommends using tools like iOS Transfer for Apple or Android Smart Switch for Android devices. To do this, you need to go to Settings on your iPhone, select Apple ID, then iCloud, and click Back Up Now. On Android, this is done through “Settings”, “Accounts & backup” and then “Data backup”. After this you should remove all PIN codes and locks from the device.
Next, it is important to delete all accounts in the cloud such as iCloud or Google. Kazakov adds that he does not forget to remove all accessories, protective films and cards. You can then perform a factory reset to completely clean your device. For iPhone, this is “Settings” – “General” – “Transfer or reset iPhone”, and for Android – “Settings” – “System” – “Reset settings”. After the process is completed, it is recommended to gently clean the device with a soft cloth to make it look like new.
