Professors Kevin Eshlman and Chris Wright and their students have developed a tool to identify “narcissistic grandiosity” that can “disrupt team dynamics.” NISE includes behavioral and situational questions aimed at identifying a candidate’s tendency towards narcissism and short-term thinking.
Questions such as reactions to team conflict are worded in ways that are appealing to candidates, and direct questions about narcissism are avoided. The goal, they write, is to provide interviewers with a scientific and reliable method for identifying traits that could harm the team atmosphere in the long run.
Sharon Pidakala, co-author of the study who works in human resources development in Singapore, emphasized that the questions can be easily integrated into different interviews.
