In Russian universities, starting in the 2025/2026 academic year, video game development will begin to be taught. Graduates will be able to work in accordance with the professional standard “Communications, Information and Communications Technologies”. This is reported by the Parliamentary Newspaper in reference to the draft order of the Ministry of Education.

If you go to university after the ninth grade, the duration of studies will be three years and 10 months, after the eleventh grade – two years and 10 months. Students will study game development, software modules, immersive and multimedia applications, and information systems testing. The program will also include 3D modeling and visualization of system components.
In addition, specialists in working with AI will appear in the Russian list of professions and specialties of secondary vocational education. They will learn AI code development, database management, and training AI models available on the market.
It will not be easy for universities to find professors in game development and artificial intelligence, but it is possible, says Victoria Berseneva, director of the sports and methodological center “Department of electronic sports”.
In August 2023, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, estimated the developer shortage in Russia at between 500,000 and 700,000 specialists. In September 2024, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated that in total around 1 million people work in the IT sector in the country.
