US schools ban students from wearing Crocs due to rising injury rates. This is already affecting sales of rubber shoes, which have become especially popular during the coronavirus pandemic, Bloomberg writes.

Over the past four years, Crocs’ annual sales have more than tripled, thanks in part to a marketing strategy aimed at teenagers. However, Bloomberg estimates that the company’s sales growth in the third quarter of 2024 will be only 0.4%. This is the worst figure since 2020.
GlobalData retail managing director Neil Saunders said the ban on Crocs in schools has not yet directly impacted the company’s performance, but “it is certainly very damaging.”
Previously, schools in 12 US states placed restrictions on the use of Crocs, deeming them unsafe. Teachers are seeing an increase in falls among students and Crocs are also distracting kids from studying. School uniform requirements often specify that shoes must be closed-toed.
“Every time they mention a leg injury, everyone immediately says, ‘I bet they were wearing Crocs,'” said Osvaldo Luciano, a medical worker at one of the American schools, in a conversation with the publication.
The Crocs brand appeared in Russia in 2008, but in March 2022 the company’s stores suspended operations in the country.
