“We have decided to reduce retail sales hours for alcoholic beverages. From Monday to Friday sales will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. On weekends, New Year’s and other holidays, the usual business hours will be maintained (from 08:00 to 23:00 – RB.RU),” said the head of the region.

The bill should come into force on March 1, 2025, Filimonov hopes. According to him, residents of the Vologda region will continue to have the opportunity to buy alcohol in restaurants, bars and hotels without time restrictions.

The regional governor explained the introduction of the measure for the fight against drunkenness. “Over the year, the incidence of alcoholism increased by 30%. <...> In the federal rating of sobriety of regions, the Vologda region occupies a shameful 71st place. Against this background, over the past four years the number of alcohol supermarkets has more than tripled. They are in every step. Many complaints are received about the so-called “nalivayki”, which make people drunk at night,” writes Filimonov.

In April, a law came into force in Russia giving regional authorities the right to ban the retail sale of beer and other alcoholic beverages in nalivayki. Similar restrictions will begin to apply from March 1, 2025, for example, in the Tomsk region.
