Amnezia VPN noted that it received a notification from Apple and after a few hours, the app disappeared from the App Store.
“We were able to overcome protocol blocks, we were able to overcome server blocks, but there is nothing we can do against Apple,” the company said in a statement. “They are now the largest provider of censorship in the world and will do everything they can to make a profit.”
The developers recommended users in Russia and other countries not to buy Apple equipment so as not to “lose access to the Internet.”
- In Russia, at the end of October, 197 VPN services were blocked. According to the director of the Center for Monitoring and Management of the Public Communications Network of Roskomnadzor, Sergei Khutortsev, they all violated Russian legislation by providing opportunities to bypass the blockade.
- At the end of September, Apple removed 98 VPN apps from the Russian App Store. Access to most of them was limited without public notice, which, according to GreatFire researchers, threatens the transparency of the App Store in Russia.
