The company was found guilty of failure to delete information, access to which is subject to restrictions (part 2 of article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). For violation of this article, courts may impose fines on legal entities in the amount of up to 4 million rubles.
Mozilla Corporation manages the development and distribution of the free Mozilla Firefox browser. The project of Russian developers to support the regional version of the Mozilla Russia browser has existed since 2004.
According to Yandex Radar, 1.21% of Russians use Firefox, which is almost 40 times less than the number of Google Chrome users.
In March 2022, the search engines Yandex, Mail.ru and OK.ru were removed from the browser due to “the predominance of state-sponsored content, contrary to Mozilla principles.” In June this year, developers restricted the operation of several browser plugins in Russia to avoid blocking due to “persistent requests” from Roskomnadzor, but later restored access.
