The Russian IT sector has become a leader in terms of growth among other large industries, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev. At the same time, due to the abundance of competing technologies, “cannibalism” arises, the minister noted.

“In fact, we see that we have many new competitive developments for individual solutions. At the same time, of course, some cannibalism occurs when they compete with each other,” Shadayev said at the CNews Forum 2024 (quote from Telesputnik).
He added that regulation of the IT sector should remain lenient and not involve excessive interference. “It is too early to say that a strong hand is needed. <...> “Everything is going as it should,” he said.
According to the minister, in the first six months of 2024, the IT sector in Russia showed year-on-year growth of more than 60%. The best performance is observed both in the pace of shipping our own solutions, as well as in the increase in the personnel base and investments in fixed capital.
Despite active development, there is no overproduction of IT solutions in Russia, there is “healthy competition,” Shadayev concluded.
