Russians began to spend more on food: the turnover of entrepreneurs in the food retail sector during the three quarters of 2024 increased by 15% in annual terms, and the average bill increased by 8%, reaching 455 rubles. This is stated in a study by T-Bank, the results of which were reviewed by RB.RU.

According to the credit institution, the number of transactions in stores in January-September increased by 7% compared to the same period in 2023. Among cities with a population of more than one million inhabitants, the largest increase in the average bill was recorded in Kazan (12%), Chelyabinsk (11%) and Perm (11%).

86% of entrepreneurs in the food retail sector work as individual entrepreneurs (IP) and 67% of grocery store owners have a single point of sale.

The share of LLCs in the food retail sector is 14%, but these companies represent 81% of the total turnover and 77% of all transactions. Individual entrepreneurs own 64% of all grocery stores, but are inferior in terms of turnover and number of transactions.

According to analysts, 70% of entrepreneurs offer their clients two or more payment methods. The turnover of these stores is three times higher than that of those that use a single payment acceptance method.

From January 2023 to September 2024, the proportion of entrepreneurs using two or more payment methods increased from 10% to 70%. Those who accept payments only through the terminal decreased from 89% to 21%. In September 2024, 5% of store owners use only QR codes and 4% only use the Pay to phone application.
