As the head of the Ministry of Culture told TASS, out of 300 theatrical premieres by Russian producers, about 60 should be major premieres. In 2023, national film producers released 207 films. In the first ten months of 2024: 170.
“Taking into account the increase in the volume of state support from 2022 and the length of the production cycle of films, we will reach the peak of releases in 2026,” Lyubimova added.
The minister noted that it was also decided to finance the sequels of the most popular films. It will be made with non-refundable funds, subject to the release of the films from June 1 to August 15.
This move should help create “the most consistent release schedule going forward.”
In late October, at a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, the heads of state expressed confidence that Russia and China would benefit if Russian and Chinese filmmakers “worked more closely with each other.”
