To develop a flexible screen, LG carried out research for five years and as a result they managed to make the device stretchable by up to 50%, writes The Straits Times. The company claims that this is the highest figure in the sector.

The prototype features a 30cm display that expands to 46cm and provides a high resolution of 100 pixels by 2.5cm and supports a full RGB color gamut. Other features of the screen include support for more than 10 thousand stretches, resistance to shock, frost and heat, lightness and the ability to attach to curved surfaces.

Initially, LG planned to give the device the ability to stretch by 20%, but managed to increase the figure using new technologies: a special substrate made of silicone material used in contact lenses and a new electrical wiring diagram.

Stretchable displays are considered “advanced technology” because they can be transformed into any shape by stretching, bending and twisting them, the company said. At the presentation of the prototype on November 8, LG showed where it could be used: for example, in a car or when used by firefighters.
