“We understand the importance of using stablecoins or cryptocurrencies for foreign economic activity. And now we are working on the nuances of this regulation with the Bank of Russia and hope to carry out the first transactions before the new year,” Popov said.

According to him, the details of the experimental legal regime (EPR) of the Central Bank are now being determined, within the framework of which it will be possible to trade cryptocurrencies in Russia and use them for international payments.

In August, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law giving the Central Bank the opportunity to launch the EPR from September 1. Popov added that Sber is also participating in the discussion on the legalization of cryptocurrency exchanges within the framework of the EPR, since “in order for a client to pay with some kind of cryptographic instrument or stablecoin, he must buy it somewhere.”

In addition, the credit institution supports the creation of platforms for spot trading of cryptocurrencies: “The miner has produced a certain amount of crypto instruments, he must sell them somewhere, preferably not outside, but within the Russian Federation. It is evident that such platforms will appear; Within the framework of the experimental legal regime, the bank is discussing the possibility of its creation,” Popov noted.
