The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accused Meta* of stifling competition and securing its position at the social media level.
We are talking about buying Instagram* and WhatsApp. The FTC claims that the company acted in bad faith and that the purchase of the social network and messenger harmed competition and users. As a result: submitting statements to the court and demanding the sale of Instagram and WhatsApp is on the company’s side.
Meta stated that they were proving their innocence to the court:
More than 10 years ago, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) initially and formally pursued this transaction, and despite ample evidence that our services compete fairly with YouTube, TikTok, X, Apple’s iMessage and many others, the commission continues to insist that it was illegal acquisitions.
—Meta Rep. Christopher Sgro
The date of the hearings in this case is still unknown. [The Verge]
*Meta is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia, Instagram belongs to Meta, which is banned in the Russian Federation
