As sales of Tesla electric vehicles stabilize, Musk is investing in driverless taxis despite complex technological and legal hurdles.

Trump, one of the entrepreneur’s biggest supporters, plans to appoint him to head a new service designed to simplify bureaucratic procedures.

Tesla currently faces uneven regulations in different states, making it difficult to adopt autonomous driving technology.

Musk has previously criticized such a system and advocated for a single federal standard for driverless cars. He will be able to promote his ideas at the federal level in a position related to “improving efficiency.”

But even if Musk is given more lenient regulation, Tesla still has many issues to overcome, including insurance coverage and legal liability for accidents.
