The writer publicly criticized Elon Musk even before acquiring Twitter and renaming it X. In 2022, King threatened to leave the site after learning that users would have to pay $20 for a blue check on a verified profile.
Additionally, King condemned the billionaire’s behavior during the presidential election campaign, when he used his account to support Trump. At the same time, the writer denies calling X owner Elon Musk “Trump’s new first lady” or that his account has been blocked.
Earlier this week, the British newspaper Guardian informed its readers that it would not publish their posts on X due to the increase in toxic content on the site.
Recently, several public figures have left the platform. Among them are Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, actress Bette Midler and host Don Lemon.
In 2022, when Elon Musk acquired Twitter, musician Elton John, actor Jim Carrey, actresses Whoopi Goldberg and Mia Farrow, producer Shonda Rhimes and singer Toni Braxton stopped maintaining their accounts.
