HE WhatsApp announced today (11) that it is launching a payment service for small businesses.. With the innovation, consumers will be able to pay for products and services through the messaging app itself, without the need to open an extra connection or bank app.

For now, the functionality is available to few entrepreneurs. But the promise is thatAll small business owners using WhatsApp Business will receive the tool in the coming months.

Payments can be made with Visa and Mastercard credit, debit and prepaid cards issued by the following financial institutions:

  • Bank of Brazil;
  • Bradesco;
  • BTG Package;
  • Box;
  • Inter;
  • Paid Market;
  • Neon;
  • Next;
  • Nubank;
  • Santander;
  • Sicoob;
  • Registered;
  • Itaú cards will also be accepted soon.

The WhatsApp announcement was made just one month after it was approved by the Central Bank. In early March 2023, the agency allowed the app to handle online business transactions, also called P2M.

Payments will be made via WhatsApp Pay, which has allowed money transfers between individuals since 2021.

In terms of security, the app explains that card numbers are encrypted and stored securely. To make the payment, the user must create a PIN (password), which is required for each new transfer.

Customers who want to purchase products and services from local retailers must register a credit, debit or prepaid card on WhatsApp.

When adding the payment method, you will be prompted to create the transaction password. You will also need to provide data such as your full name, CPF and CPF in addition to your full card number.

After registration, the user will already be able to pay small businessmen through the application. For this, the seller must activate the option and send a payment request to the customer.

The customer then clicks on the link sent by the seller, checks the payment information, enters the PIN and that’s it: done.
