In November, Rospatent registered an application from the Beijing Institute of Precision Control and Mechatronics for a new invention: a system for combining a mechanical arm with a robotic hand and a method for controlling the movements of a robotic arm, RB.RU learned. . Experts believe that the Chinese patent will not interfere with Russian inventors.

A mechanical arm with four degrees of freedom of movement will be combined with a hand using a robotic wrist and an electrical circuit, according to Rospatent materials.
The wrist of the robotic hand is a parallel mechanism with two degrees of freedom and contains two motors, two pushers, and two position servo controllers. The arm itself contains active and slave servo controllers, motors, and pushers, as evident from the application, which has 11 authors.
“The two pushers move in the same direction, the robotic hand performs horizontal axis movement and the tilt angle range is -70 to 70 degrees, and when the two pushers move in opposite directions, the robotic hand performs a vertical axis rotation. , and the range of the inclination angle is -45 to 45 degrees,” says Rospatent Materials in reference to the claims.
The coordinate system of the mechanical arm is established by the Denavit-Hartenberg method.
Promobot co-founder Oleg Kivokurtsev, who creates robots in Russia, commented on the intentions of the Beijing Institute for RB.RU.
“This development is interesting for its unusual approach to mechanics, based on a system of servomotors that drive a pusher that activates other servomotors. The design is complex and requires significant effort to develop software to ensure system synchronization. However, judging by the description and characteristics, it does not have higher charging capacity or energy efficiency, nor does it reduce battery consumption,” Kivokurtsev said.
According to the Russian engineer, it is still premature to talk about broad prospects for this development, given the availability of more effective solutions for the creation of robotic arms and other components.
Kivokurtsev added that registering such a patent would not hinder other inventors, as there are many solutions.
“For example, claims indicate a sequence of actions of mechanisms that can be changed without losing the essence, which will create a new invention. The inclination angles with specific degrees are also described, and the slightest change in these parameters will lead to a new solution,” the engineer added.
According to the inventor, the main objective of this document is to inform the university about the scholarship program, since one of the indicators of the effectiveness of this type of project is the presence of patents registered abroad. That is why the developers decided to register this document, the expert concluded.
According to Crunchbase, in 2024 startups in the field of robotics raised 6.4 billion dollars, by the end of the year the volume of investments could reach almost 7.5 billion dollars. In 2023, venture investments in these startups reached $6.9 billion.
