According to the statement, the innovation will be available to Microsoft 365 subscribers in early 2025. In a first stage it will work with nine languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese and Spanish.
The Interpreter feature will not only translate what is said in real time, but will also imitate the speaker’s voice. The company clarified that the tool does not save users’ biometric data, does not add emotions to the voice beyond those “naturally present” and can be disabled in the Teams settings.
“Interpreter is designed to reproduce the speaker’s message as accurately as possible without adding unnecessary information. “Voice simulation can only be enabled with users’ consent via a notification during a meeting or in Settings,” a Microsoft spokesperson told TechCrunch.
Other AI-powered features are coming to Teams, including meeting transcriptions in 31 languages, analysis of visual content that users display on the screen, and summaries of documents sent in chat.
