According to experts from the MTS “Defender” service, from July to November in Russia, the number of conversations between subscribers and phone scammers decreased significantly – from 70% to 50%. Experts believe this is due to new security services and increased awareness among people of common scams. Complaints about fraudulent calls also decreased: the number of calls to call centers decreased by 40%.

On average, a call with scammers lasts about 40 seconds, and only 2% of calls last longer than five minutes. Scammers are mostly active between 9am and 6pm on weekdays, with Thursdays being the most “popular” day for their calls. Despite this, approximately 5% of scam calls occur on weekends; This shows that they are trying to reach as many potential victims as possible.

According to Andrey Biychuk, manager of the Defender product, the volume of calls from scammers has tripled in a few months, but they are actively being fought against. For example, up to 80% of suspicious numbers are blocked within 24 hours. This significantly reduces the likelihood of fraudsters reaching customers.
