As of November 18, the status of these brands had not changed: Sega remains the copyright holder, according to data from Rospatent and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Baskakov’s lawyers told Kommersant that the businessman and Sega reached an out-of-court settlement. Details of the agreement have not been disclosed. The Japanese company did not respond to the newspaper’s request.

Sega now produces video games for computers and consoles, and until 2001 produced its own consoles, including the Sega Mega Drive, which was distributed in Russia. Baskakov is the founder of the game distributor Padis and the New Game store, which sold games for the Mega Drive.

The businessman owns the Mega Drive, Magistr and Dendy brands in Russia and since October 2023 has been trying to challenge the legal protection of the Sega brands.
