Yandex Food has launched a new “favorable” tariff in trial mode for 20% of users in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the service’s press service informed RB.RU. Within the rate, the order will be delivered in 1-2 hours and the shipping cost will be 30% lower.

The new rate is valid only in delivery areas by bicycle or by foot couriers, since due to the speed of delivery of orders in these areas, the majority of orders are placed through the service. The option will help the company cope with the shortage of couriers: the company needs additional time to select a delivery driver for a specific order.
The innovation may also appear in Yandex Shop, where it is currently being tested. They plan to introduce longer but cheaper deliveries in all Yandex Food cities later this year.
The company previously ran an experiment where it offered a discount for every tenth order for longer waits. A survey of the service showed that more than half of users are willing to wait for delivery to reduce its cost.
The day before, RB.RU reported that Yandex had registered the trademark “Product without a person” with Rospatent. Experts interviewed by the publication suggested that in this way the company could begin to create robotic production lines or organize unmanned deliveries.
