The refinancing rate of the National Bank of Belarus has been 9.5% since June last year, while the key rate of the Central Bank of Russia has been 21% since October 28.
In 2024, the Belarusian regulator did not change refinancing rates, however, the average interest rate on corporate loans in Belarusian rubles increased for the fifth month in a row, albeit at a slow pace: from August to September 2024, refinancing rates commercial loans increased from 10.18% to 10.27% annually, as indicated in the National Bank bulletin. At the same time, the average interest rate on loans to individuals also increased from 10.27% to 10.4% annually, although a year ago it was 10.03%.
On November 20, the press service of the Belarusian regulator announced on its Telegram channel that it would not change the standard risk values (RSV) calculated for loans in force since August, which determine the upper values of interest rates, in December. For individuals, the RVSR is 17.71% annually, for legal entities, 12.5%.
According to a state banker interviewed by Frank Media, loans from friendly foreign banks were not always a good decision for companies, as such a practice could lead to a shortage of liquidity in the local market and often did not take into account the characteristics from other economies. .
In August this year, the Central Bank of Russia noted the need to reduce the monetary devaluation of the Russian banking sector due to exchange rate volatility.
In October, the first vice president of the Belarusian Development Bank, Roman Brodov, stated that Russian banks and legal entities have become “interested in loans in Belarusian rubles,” which is “a sign of confidence in economic policy.” [Беларуси]”
