According to NBC News, citing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 35,500 2025 Tucson and 6,900 Santa Cruz vehicles are subject to recall. At the same time, according to NHTSA estimates, about 1% of cars have a defect.
Vehicles subject to recall are equipped with transmissions that can be shifted out of park without depressing the brake pedal, increasing the risk of an accident or injury.
Hyundai is expected to send letters to drivers on January 19, 2025. Until this point, the company recommends that vehicle owners use the parking brake when parking.
Earlier this week, Hyundai decided to recall more than 145,000 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 electric vehicles due to charging issues that cause the batteries to stop charging.
