The team tested the technology on a NASA aircraft that simulated weightlessness. Using special ink made from silver nanoparticles and bio-based polymers, a 3D printer can create complex electronic circuits. The ink’s ability to activate electrical properties when heated enables high-resolution printing, while the EHD technique enables precision in zero-gravity environments by using electric fields to “ignite” tiny ink droplets.
This development could be critical for long-duration space missions, where repair and fabrication of “special components” may be required.
