According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is not developing significant improvements to its premium headphones.
The latest “updated” version of AirPods Max, presented in September 2024, differs only in the switch from the Lightning port to USB-C, which cannot be called a big step forward.
More significant updates, such as a new chip or support for modern Apple Music features, are not yet expected.
Rumors that the headphones will not be updated due to insufficient sales seem reasonable.
Despite its premium price of $549, AirPods Max will lack support for lossless audio quality and other features available in Apple Music in 2021.
Moreover, the headphones are still equipped with the old H1 chip, while the AirPods Pro already use the more modern H2.
