Shapkin noted that nearly half of the beers sold in kegs expire in plastic bottles, or 10-15%. The shelf life of live beer is usually a few days.
Shapkin warned that beer should not be drunk after the expiration date due to the loss of consumer qualities. Expired beverages may contain phthalate compounds used in the production of plastics.
Dietician-nutritionist Larisa Gabdulkhakova commented on Pavel Shapkin’s words. “Consuming expired beer can cause nausea or stomach upset. In extreme cases, it can lead to admission to the infectious diseases department. Fermented beer shows that various bacteria, even fungi, have proliferated there,” said the doctor.
