Apple has patented an iPhone that has the action of four buttons.

The first is a regular action button, just like the one on the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro. The other three replace the volume and lock buttons.

By default, they will exist behind these functions, but users can assign them to other commands. The process will be similar to setting up button actions.

The patent also covers “laptops and tablet computers with touch-sensitive surfaces.” We may be talking about future Macs and iPads, but Apple is also including trackpads and touch buttons in this format. [9to5Mac]
