Apple uses custom AI chips Inferentia and Graviton from Amazon Web Services (AWS) for search services. This was stated by Apple’s senior director of machine learning and artificial intelligence Benoit Dupin.
Dupin said Amazon’s AI chips are “reliable, accurate and capable of serving customers.” [Apple] all over the world.” An Apple test is planned; Amazon’s Trainium2 chip could be used to pre-train Apple Intelligence and other artificial intelligence models.
Apple has been receiving AWS for over 10 years for Siri, Apple Maps and Apple Music. With Amazon’s Inferentia and Graviton chips, the company saw a 40 percent increase in efficiency, and with Trainium2, Dupin said Apple expects efficiency gains of up to 50 percent with pre-training.
