Former NASA engineer Mark Rober posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he showed how a satellite was designed to take selfies from space.
With the support of T-Mobile and Google, he made a device that creates space photos of people on the Google Pixel screen. Work on the project has been going on for the past three years.
To do this, using the Falcon 9 rocket, the YouTuber will launch his SatGus satellite into orbit in January 2025. Inside the device, all the moments that can be guaranteed to destroy its case and smartphones are taken into account. This will avoid such a situation.
The design uses two cameras and two Google Pixel smartphones mounted on the satellite side, all powered by a solar panel supplying power to a 120Wh battery. And in order for the satellite to be able to correctly photograph any point on the Earth and rotate it without help, Robert made a special flywheel inside.
The YouTuber allowed the selfie to be published immediately after the SatGus was launched into space. In addition, anyone can also take their own photo from space, but this requires a subscription to CrunchLabs, which offers construction sets for children.
This feature will also be available to T-Mobile subscribers and Google Pixel users. You can obtain a special code on the websites of the relevant manufacturers and operators.
After this code, you need to log into the official SpaceSelfie website, upload your selfie and send a message with the exact date and time when the satellite will be ready to take your photo at your location.
