The Genotek medical genetics center has proven that the designer Artemy Lebedev and his mother Tatyana Tolstaya belong to the Tolstoy dynasty, of which the writer Leo Tolstoy is also a part. This was reported to RB.RU by the company’s press service.

Lebedev’s great-grandfather, the Soviet writer Alexei Tolstoy, carried the surname Bostrom until he was 17 years old. “His mother, pregnant, left Count Nikolai Alexandrovich Tolstoy for a small nobleman Alexei Apollonovich Bostrom. Historians still doubt the origin of the writer from the Tolstoy family,” Genotek explained.
To find out whether Alexei Tolstoy and his descendants really belong to a dynasty with a long history, the company’s employees conducted a genetic study. They compared the genomes of the writer’s grandchildren, Tatyana and Denis Tolstoy, with the genome of Olga Mstislavovna Tolstoy, the granddaughter of Grave Nikolai Tolstoy.
“We have identified important autosomal DNA matches between Tatyana Tolstaya, Artemy Lebedev, descendants of Alexei Tolstoy and representatives of the Tolstoy dynasty. The results obtained allow us to affirm that the father of the writer Alexei Tolstoy was Count Nikolai Tolstoy and not Alexey Bostrom,” said Alexander Rakitko, scientific director of Genotek.
