On December 5, 2014, the first neural network appeared in Yandex search. It caused finding an image similar to the uploaded picture.
10 years later, neural networks completely changed the algorithms of Yandex:
▶︎ 2015: neural networks have learned to search for pictures using text queries
▶︎ 2016: the Palekh algorithm was launched, which for the first time used neural networks to rank website titles
▶︎ 2017: in the Korolev algorithm, neural networks began to take into account the text of the page when compiling search results
▶︎ 2020: Yandex Korean neural network YATI (Yet Another Improved Transformer), which significantly ensures the quality of website ranking.
▶︎ 2021: translation search was enabled. If a suitable answer to a Russian-language query is not found in RuNet, the search shows translated foreign sites
▶︎ 2024: Yandex Neuro search has been introduced, which responds to user requests using the YandexGPT neural network.
The company is confident that the future of the Internet lies in generative neural networks that are capable of not only searching, but also creating content. Similar technologies are already used in Neuro search.
