The “Kolomenskoye” nature park or reserve-museum is a huge green area where you can see a large number of architectural buildings of different styles and centuries of construction. This is one of the most beautiful places in Moscow, not only among the parks, but in general, in Moscow. If you remember all the parks in Moscow, then by beauty and impression you can still distinguish such parks as: VDNKh, Gorky Park and Tsaritsyno Park.

I would add Kolomenskoye parks and Tsaritsyno park in a common style. All the same, the VDNKh and Gorky parks are a kind of “Soviet” or something, they have something in common. Like Kolomenskoye and Tsaritsyno parks have in common. Both parks are located in the south of Moscow, both parks have a beautiful green area, and both parks have many interesting architectural buildings of different styles and eras.

The territory of the park is so large – 390 hectares – that you can enter the park from two different metro stations. From the Kashirskaya metro station and from the Kolomenskoye metro station. Both stations are on the same branch and follow each other. If you exit through the Kolomenskoye station, then behind the subway hall, 300 meters from you, there is a gate to the nondescript park. To be honest, I can’t even believe that behind such an ugly entrance, an incredible architectural beauty awaits you.

Then you can immediately see a billboard with all the attractions in the park and assess the entire size of the park. By the way, everything is fine with the navigation signs near the park, you will be constantly accompanied by different signs, it is possible to get lost, but it is difficult.

If you enter at the Kashirskaya metro station, the distance to the park entrance is a little more than from the Kolomenskoye metro station. Walk at a brisk pace for about 10 minutes, but this entrance is more beautiful and full of different architecture. First, a small and beautiful Kazan church, built in the 17th century, awaits you.

And very beautiful “Front Gate”, which previously served as the main entrance to the park. The gate, like the church, was built in the 17th century.

“Front door” from the inside.

Entering the park from the Kolomenskoye metro station, you will immediately come across the impressive wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. Such is the beauty that in any photograph, at any time of the year, this architectural structure looks great.

The general view of the building is a bit spoiled by the lighting masts, but thanks to these masts the palace is beautifully illuminated at night and in the evening. There are also attached restaurants near the palace, I was there in the morning, there were no people, but I think that at night, when there are a lot of people, the general positive background of the architecture will be spoiled a bit.

This palace is the former residence of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, it was originally built in the 17th century. The current building is, of course, a remake, restored according to plans in the early 21st century. Yes, the architecture is restored, but it looks great. A very good example of the correct work to restore old architecture. All these domes, architraves, windows, wooden ceilings and a beautiful ceiling look great. The pleasure of beauty is incredible. Blooming greens and mermaid flowers only add to the overall positive tone of the mood.

If you, like me, are visiting this park for the first time. So your goal is probably to visit the most famous buildings in this park – this is the royal palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich and the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, with beautiful buildings next to this church. Both buildings are located at a considerable distance from each other. Be prepared for a walk of at least an hour, or even longer, depending on your pace and general distraction to other objects. And there are many other items! The territory is very green, there is something to see, but there are also quite a few beautiful architectural objects along the way.

For example, on the way you can see the beautiful surroundings of Moscow. The park is located on a hill and Moscow looks very beautiful from the height of the park, especially in clear summer weather.

The Moskva river flows below, but it is better not to go down, the terrain is very steep, you can fall. Then you can go down to the river in a safer way. You can not only go down to the river, but also walk along the river embankment. Many people pass by on bicycles, it is a great way to explore the vast area of the park.

On the way you can see a very beautiful and majestic Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist. This is a church built in the 16th century and has been preserved in its original form.

The church is so immersed in the greenery of the trees that it is completely impossible to photograph it, only up close, taking only one of its sides in the frame.

This is what the church used to look like, when the trees didn’t grow like that.

Well, the most beautiful in Kolomenskoye Park, along with the Tsar’s Palace, is the Church of the Ascension and the Church of St. George the Victorious.

This is such elegant architecture that it simply takes your breath away! These buildings were built at different times, but the overall style is harmonious and unified in purpose. All the details of the architecture are beautiful and you can enjoy seeing different parts of the buildings.

Yes, this place is very touristy, but if you pick the “right” time, then a large number of people won’t hurt you to see this UNESCO World Heritage Site and the beauty that surrounds it. The Moscow river flows below, everything around is green, blue sky and clear sun, very beautiful. No wonder several movies were shot in such a beautiful location, eg Shadows Disappear at Noon, Midshipmen Go! and “The Barber of Siberia”.
Kolomenskoye is a very beautiful park, I definitely recommend visiting it.
