Modifications are being made to article 12.9 of the Administrative Code (exceeding the established speed limit). If the document is accepted, the fine for speeding over 20 km/h will increase from 500 rubles to 750 rubles, and over 40 km/h – from 1 to 1.5 thousand rubles to 2 to 2.25 thousand rubles.
In case of speeding over 60 km/h, the administrative penalty will be 3 to 3.75 thousand rubles instead of 2 to 2.5 thousand rubles, and over 80 km/h – 7.5 thousand rubles.
According to the amendments, it is proposed to increase other fines, for example, for driving while intoxicated – up to 45 thousand rubles, for driving in the oncoming lane – up to 7.5 thousand rubles, for driving in the lane for fixed route vehicles – up to 2.25 thousand rubles.
According to TASS, the State Duma will consider amendments to increase fines for traffic violations in second reading at a plenary session on December 12.
Previously, in November, lower house deputies proposed allowing road owners to set the speed limit at 150 km/h. The measure will also reduce drivers’ travel time and improve road capacity, the initiative’s authors believe.
