The company learned of the possible leak during an internal technical investigation. Last names, first names, email addresses, telephone numbers and customer card activation dates could have been leaked to the network. The preliminary reason is a vulnerability on the part of the technical partner Metro.

“Metro received information about the availability of part of the personal database on Telegram. Metro places the highest priority on customer and transaction security, and strictly complies with the law,” the company emphasized.

They added that they carry out “strict information verifications and security controls in accordance with all legal requirements” and have also taken “additional measures” to maintain the security of transactions.

Previously, the deputy chairman of the board of directors of Sberbank, Stanislav Kuznetsov, stated that as a result of the leaks until November 2024, 3.5 billion rows of data were publicly available, affecting approximately 90% of Russians. The main sources of leaks were online stores and medical institutions.
