Meta confirmed the donation, but did not provide additional details. According to the WSJ, Zuckerberg tried to improve relations with Trump even before his election victory. To this end, in November he held a dinner with the future president on the terrace of his private club Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.

Before the dinner, Zuckerberg showed Trump Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which he later gave to the president-elect, people familiar with the matter said. According to one of them, Zuckerberg’s team notified the inauguration fund of Meta’s intention to make a donation before the dinner.

Zuckerberg has previously supported both Democratic and Republican congressional candidates, but has avoided participating in presidential races. Neither Zuckerberg nor Meta donated to Trump’s 2017 inauguration fund or current US President Joe Biden’s 2021 fund, according to public records.

Zuckerberg attempted to mend relations after Trump repeatedly threatened the billionaire with prison during the election campaign. Republicans have accused Zuckerberg of trying to influence Democratic voter turnout in key states as the billionaire pledged nearly $400 million to develop election infrastructure. We already know who you are. DON’T DO THIS! Zuckerbucks, be careful! – wrote.

In his book “Saving America,” published in the fall, Trump posted a photo of a meeting with Zuckerberg in the Oval Office and said the Meta boss would “spend the rest of his life in prison” if he tried to influence the government. 2024 election results.

Zuckerberg himself, in private conversations with other business leaders, expressed optimism about Donald Trump’s presidency, WSJ interlocutors said.
