The cause of the large-scale failure of the Federal Tax Service (FTS) website was problems with the Russian domain gov.ru, the tax press service reported to RB.RU. They assured that taxpayer data remained secure.

“On December 17, a technical problem arose affecting the gov.ru DNS zone, which affected the availability of the Russian Federal Tax Service website. Specialists from Rostelecom and the Russian Federal Tax Service are working to eliminate it,” a representative of the Federal Tax Service clarified, promising that the system will be restored “in the near future.”
According to him, despite the failure of the website, all services of the tax service continue to function “normally both in the mobile version and on the web.” They can be accessed through a direct link. “Taxpayer data, as well as the infrastructure of the Federal Tax Service of Russia, are still safe and protected,” the press service highlighted.
Users complained about a malfunction of the website and application of the Federal Tax Service on December 17. Messages about technical problems began to arrive around 12:15 Moscow time, the total number of complaints exceeded 600. Most of them concerned problems with loading the site and access to the taxpayer’s personal account.
Complaints came from the Magadan region, Kalmykia, St. Petersburg, the Leningrad region, the Kaliningrad region, as well as Moscow and the Moscow region.
