OpenAI has opened access to its search engine ChatGPT Search to all registered users. This is stated in a message on the company’s website. Previously, the option was only available to paid subscribers.

You can use the AI-based search service on the ChatGPT app and website. You can also make it the default search in browsers and install it in Google Chrome as an extension.
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Search in late October, initially only available to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers. The search engine is based on the GPT-4o artificial intelligence model developed by OpenAI.
The company promised that ChatGPT Search will provide quick responses with relevant links to sources. “People want answers when they search for something, but right now you need to ask a lot of questions and click on a series of links. The ability to ask questions in a conversational format using all the relevant context makes this process much more convenient,” Varun Shetty, head of media partnerships at OpenAI, told Bloomberg.
In early December, OpenAI announced that it intends to increase its audience reach to 1 billion people by 2025 by developing ChatGPT Search and integrating the neural network with Apple devices. According to The Information, the company was considering developing a browser that would integrate with its chatbot and compete with Google Chrome.
