The original iPhone is a very important part of mobile phone history, and anyone who still has it in its original packaging could be in for a goldmine if they want to part with it, as this recent seller did.
We have seen several Original iPhones are being sold at auctions for ridiculously high prices in recent months, and the most recent sale of a rare variant indicates that the trend is still strong.

Sold after 12 hours of bidding for $40,320 through Wright’s auctions, the phone comes in its original packaging with an interesting sticker on the front. The sticker is a thin red rectangle with the Apple logo and the text “Lucky You”. The origin of the sticker is relatively mysterious, but an AppleInsider reader contacted the post and said that they were working at the Apple Store when the first iPhones hit the market, and that the sticker was an optional gift box option for their first vacation, making this version of the iPhone an interesting rare option.
While it didn’t last as long as the recent original iPhone auction, which sold for over $60,000, the “Lucky You” iPhone did bring its fair share of changes, especially considering it wasn’t in perfect condition. The plastic packaging at the top of the box was a little torn, but that didn’t stop bidders from considering it as a valuable piece of smartphone history.
As more of these high-selling auctions take place, it seems that the most valuable versions of the iPhone and other parts of Apple’s history have come to light. This makes a lot of sense: a person sees that the iPhone is selling for more than his car is worth, and rummages through the closet in search of his old technology.
While most vintage iPhones won’t sell for close to what Lucky did, there’s a good chance that if you have one in mint condition in its original packaging, you can make a lot of money. If you think you’ve got “Willy Wonka, the 24 carat golden ticket,” as the iPhone salesman “Lucky You” put it, it might be worth appraising your phone and putting it up for auction. Who knows? You can get an additional $40,320.
