According to Jet Infosystems’ 2024 cyber threats report, the data of more than half of Russian companies, that is, 59%, was leaked to darknet forums and Telegram channels linked to hacker or fraudulent activities. Experts analyzed more than 10 thousand incidents affecting more than 100 organizations. The most vulnerable sectors included financial institutions, IT companies and real estate entities.
According to analysts, one of the main reasons for the leaks was corporate accounts that employees used to sign up for third-party online platforms for areas such as healthcare and insurance. In 2024, the number of such leaks reached almost 16 thousand, which is 60% more than last year. Hackers gained access to the internal systems of many companies through phishing emails and, in some cases, used hacked SME accounts.
Leading BI expert. Regional Threat Intelligence Oleg Skulkin stated that phishing emails remain the most popular method of cyber attacks, and 8 out of 10 groups attacking Russian companies use these emails. The reason why phishing attacks are so successful is their low cost, wide reach and high effectiveness. In most cases, such letters are disguised as financial documents, making them more trustworthy for recipients. Analysts expect hackers to continue using simple and automated attack methods, especially threatening small and medium-sized businesses.
