Doctor of Technical Sciences and head of the RTU MIREA KB-4 “Smart Information Security Systems” department Elena Maksimova says that to ensure security when using the browser, it is important to follow a few simple recommendations. He explained that regular browser updates are necessary to eliminate security vulnerabilities and increase data security.
Maksimova also recommended installing reliable anti-virus programs and extensions to block ads and trackers. These measures will help prevent the collection of information about user behavior on the Internet that fraudsters can use to distribute malware. “Advertising banners and tracking codes can collect personal data, which increases the risk of threats,” the expert emphasized.
You should also periodically delete cookies that may be used to track your browsing history and user activity to protect your personal information. To increase the security of accounts, Maksimova recommended using complex passwords with unique combinations of characters and numbers and enabling two-factor authentication. As a result, the expert warned to be careful and avoid opening files or links from foreign senders, as phishing attacks are still one of the most common threats.
