After the board meeting on December 23, Nissan and Honda will hold a joint press conference, the agency writes. Mitsubishi, whose largest shareholder is Nissan, should also participate, said one of the interlocutors.
The automakers must complete the deal by June 2025 and create a joint holding company by August 2026, one of the sources said. It is expected that after the creation of the group, its shares will go public and Nissan and Honda will go private.
The merger will create the world’s third-largest auto group by car sales, after Toyota and Volkswagen, Reuters says.
One of the agency’s interlocutors clarified that Honda will appoint most of the board of directors of the new holding company, including the director.
Sources told the Financial Times that Nissan and Honda planned to merge into a single group in mid-December. According to them, as a result of the merger a holding company worth $52 billion will be formed. Nikkei Asia’s interlocutors clarified that it is planned to involve Mitsubishi in the transaction.
