Experts from Innopolis University have developed a shockproof drone for examining mines, reservoirs and other complex objects that are dangerous to humans. The new drone was successfully tested in the Moscow metro together with engineers from the company PRIN and Mosgorgeotrest. The drone can operate autonomously without GPS, using SLAM technology to create a real-time map of the environment.

During tests in a ventilation shaft, the drone collected data using lidar, creating a detailed 3D model of the area. This model will help experts analyze the condition of an object that is temporarily out of service. According to Iskender Bariev, director of Innopolis University, the use of such technologies not only speeds up the inspection of mines, but also makes them safer and improves the quality of infrastructure analysis.

To compare the accuracy of the models, the ventilation shaft was also scanned using professional GNSS-RTK equipment from the PRIN company. The results showed that the drone produced a geometrically accurate but noisier model, while the handheld scanner produced a clearer image. Alexander Bragin from PRIN stated that such innovations are in demand in the market and, based on the test results, it is planned to develop the device and put it into trial operation.
