BMW has started delivering vehicles with options locked in South Korea.
The bottom line is that initially the car used large options, but they are available. An amount is needed to unlock it, for example, heated seats cost $18 per month. There are subscription options for a year and 3 years – $180 and $300 respectively, and also take a free trial period for one month.
If the owner wants to permanently unlock it, it will cost him $415.
Other paid features include:
• steering wheel heating: $10 per month
• recording with built-in DVR cameras: $235 (permanent)
• Apple CarPlay: $305 (forever)
Users have already criticized this decision, back in 2020 they began to take advantage of the company’s desire to switch to a subscription system, calling such a move greedy and exploitative. [The Verge]
