The Bluetooth SIG is certified and standardizer of Bluetooth LE Audio, a set of new features for Bluetooth-enabled devices.
It was announced back in 2020, but there was a delay due to the pandemic. The technology has become available to manufacturers only now.
Among the advantages:
• the ability to connect multiple audio devices (more than two) to one source with the Auracast function
• the presence of the LC3 codec, which significantly improves its sound transmission quality and brings it closer to wired (much higher sound quality at the same data rate as in the SBC codec)
• erroneous power consumption
According to the Bluetooth SIG, some gadgets don’t need to be updated to support Bluetooth LE Audio. So, Apple has already added support for the LC3 codec to the iOS 16 beta for AirPods Max headphones. [The Verge]
