The six-wheeled robot is equipped with an electric motor and is capable of moving at the speed of a fast-walking person (several meters per second); uses lidar (laser locator) and 3D video cameras to navigate in space.

Before starting work, the automated waiter must go around the room to make a map of the room, after which the establishment administrator will only have to configure the robot with the sequence of visits to the tables. You can also control the device using a smartphone or computer.

The robot can carry up to three trays of food, but visitors will have to pick up the plates themselves. The creators plan to add a payment terminal and a voice module to the device, as well as improve the design.

According to MEPhI, “several public catering chains, as well as a supermarket chain” have already expressed interest in the project. Their names are not revealed. The first pilot tests will be carried out in 2025 in one of the cafes on the territory of the MEPhI, Bolotov said.
