Here are some things you need to say goodbye to in the kitchen.

old sponges. A 2022 study revealed that used kitchen sponges contain many different harmful bacteria. At the same time, dishwashing brushes retain less bacteria than sponges.

worn cutting boards. According to the USDA, the grooves in these boards are difficult to clean completely and can become a breeding ground for bacteria that can cause illness.

old kitchen utensils. This applies to cutlery that is partially chipped or cracked.

Unused devices and their instructions. They just take up space in the kitchen.

Condiments, straws and cutlery. If you’re not using it, throw it away.

kitchen magnets. Choose your favorite magnets and throw away the rest.

ancient spices. According to the USDA, whole spices can last two to four years, and ground spices can last up to three years at room temperature.

Coffee. Whole bean and freshly ground coffee can be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry, dark place for up to two weeks. However, it also deteriorates over time.

vegetable oil. Not all oils can be stored for up to one year from the date of opening. For example, a bottle of olive oil will only stay fresh for a few months.

Burnt food in the freezer. Also remember to check expiration dates.
