The defendant is charged under part 4 of article 272 (illegal access to computer information), part 3 of article 273 (creation and use of malicious computer programs) and paragraph “b” of part 3 of article 163 of the Penal Code (extortion). , hThis was stated in a conversation with journalists by the official representative of the Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko.
According to investigators, in May 2023, the defendant illegally gained access to the infrastructure of an anonymous service using account passwords and locked customer databases using malware. The attacker then demanded that the company hand over 27 million rubles in cryptocurrency, promising to provide him with a password to unlock the databases, the Investigative Committee noted.
The official representative of the Ministry of the Interior, Irina Volk, wrote on her Telegram channel that the hacker hacked the infrastructure of one of the large IT companies, where he worked as a leading engineer from 2021 to 2022. Representatives of the organization complied with the demands of the attacker and restored the information, and then contacted the police, Volk clarified.
According to her, after arresting the hacker’s house, the police conducted a search, found and seized network storage devices, a system unit, 37 hard drives, bank cards, communication equipment and other objects important to the investigation.
“The preliminary investigation has already concluded. The criminal case with the approved indictment was sent to the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow for consideration on the merits,” Volk noted.
In early December, the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, said that his department had prepared a draft law on the recognition of digital currencies as property for the purposes of criminal and criminal procedure legislation. The document, which is being examined by the government, also establishes the procedure for the confiscation and seizure of such coins.
