The son of the 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter, Chip Carter, told the Washington Post about his father’s death at the age of 101. Carter led the country from 1977 to 1981 and was remembered by many as a humanistic and dignified leader. World leaders spoke of this in their condolences.

Current US President Joe Biden called Carter “an outstanding statesman and humanist,” while former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama emphasized the late leader’s enormous contribution to the development of the United States.
Donald Trump, who took office in January, said: “The challenges Jimmy faced as president came at a critical time for the country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. That is why we are all indebted to him.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recalled Carter’s important role in signing the historic Camp David agreement, a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, for which he received the Nobel Prize.
The French president, Emmanuel Macron, trusts that the main merit of the late former president is that “throughout his life he was a firm defender of the rights of the most vulnerable sectors of the population.”
King Charles III of England praised Carter for “promoting peace and human rights,” and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru promised to pray for “the repose of the soul” of the late president (“I express my deepest respect to President Carter, who made significant contributions to strengthening friendly relations between Japan and the United States and maintaining peace and stability in the international community.”
Also expressing their condolences were the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, the Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz Canel, and others.
Commenting on Carter’s death in Lente, Vladimir Dzhabarov, first vice-chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, admitted that the “typical pro-American leader” of the Cold War era was unable to break the ice ( “there is no need to say that there was any détente”), so it “fell into political oblivion” and it is difficult to comment on its contribution to US-Russian relations (“I can’t say anything good or bad”).
January 9 was declared a day of mourning in the United States for the death of Jimmy Carter.
