The problem occurred due to misconfiguration of two applications. White hat hackers from the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) noticed this vulnerability and reported it to Cariad on November 26th. The data leak affected cars of the VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda brands.

The leaked information included data on automobiles in different countries, including Europe. Some of the affected vehicles were linked to government authorities, and location data was collected even when the vehicles were turned off.

Cariad solved the problem.
