Since the renewal of these “issuer certificates” is now the responsibility of the banks themselves (previously this was done by payment systems), problems may arise with the “reading” of the chip in ATMs and payment terminals.

The problem, however, will affect less than 1% of the entire terminal network, writes RBC, referring to the Central Bank. Most credit institutions, together with the Central Bank and the NSPK (National Payment Card System), carried out in advance the necessary technical improvements or configurations to continue the operation of cards of international payment systems .

According to Dmitry Malykh, head of Sberbank’s Transaction Banking block, the process of updating certificates may affect Sber “both as a bank that issues cards and as a bank that accepts them for payment in stores.” But he assures that any temporary difficulties are a purely technical issue and can be resolved.

There may be errors in the operation of T-Bank cards (according to a customer service representative) and Zenit Bank (as said by the head of the bank’s credit products center, Vadim Zaitsev), and VTB, OTP Bank and Pochta Bank promise There will be no problems, there won’t be any.
